Other illustrations.

I have had a look at other peoples illustrations for the wind in the willows and i just thought it was worth whacking it on my blog and doing a evaluation of the different styles the people have picked up on that vary greatly.

For example the image above is a very simple basic design that is a rather nice interpretation of badger looking like he is having  picnic. However this is not the feeling i get that badger should be portrayed as. I think it should be a quite a dark scary character. more like this next image.

Maybe this is a little over exaggerated and slightly too aggressive for wind in the willows. But this is more of the vision i see of badger. Like sitting in his chair in a dark room with a fire on, looking mardy and mad.

This design is also a bit of a nice design interpretation maybe not quite so friendly as the first one. But it has a nice calm edge mixed with some darker elements, with a long face which could signify being sad or mardy. Like the saying why such a long face.

Now this is a very interesting image as its not a illustration but a photo of real life people put in clothes to resemble the characters. But its actually a really good example to show the different personalities. So for me looking at badger this is a look that i want to emulate in my design work, as he really looks angry and moody. It also has a arched back and slugged shoulders which suggests a sadness too.
