For this project we were given the task of designing artwork that would be used for glass manifestations for the new bus interchange that would be finished by mid august time. So this project was a really good one to have as its given us a real life look into whats involved with the creative industry and working alongside real clients and for real briefs. From the nature of the project it has just plodded along and moved in one direction, it has changed and adapted with the clients needs and vision. Which is something i have had to learn to do. This is because sometimes i get bobbed down with doing what i feel is best and have blinkers on and like what i like. Which is good in away because you have to stay true to your style and what you like. However what i have learnt to do is try and sell your ideas to the client to try and influence guide them almost in a certain direction. this is because when you show them or feed the client ideas, even if they don't show it they will be imagine if that idea could work or how they could incorporate it some how into the building. Which is whats happened with this project, although it was fairly open as to what we could design or how we could do it, at different stages perimeters started to be put in place. For example in how they wanted circles and then they wanted them to be just grey. So especially for my designs they need to be adapted as i was all for using bright colors so it looked bright and promotes a good feeling in people when they look at it.
However by doing these designs it had stimulated ideas in the client and had obviously gone away and had a think, and came back with another design task a few weeks ago. which was to do some large design work to go on a large white 3x10M wall inside the interchange, as they didnt want just a large blank wall. So when the architect Robert and Project manager Paul came in to tell us this news they actually said we kind of had free range to do what we want. But what i was extremely pleased about was they remembered to of my designs which was the man running for the bus and also one i had done very earlier on in the project probably several months ago- that wasn't even finished. Which was a Piet Mondrian inspired piece of a aerial map view of worksop with different sections of it filled with bright colors. So obviously the designs i did they liked and inspired them for it to stick in their minds.
So for this part of the project i have got really excited over and have focused a lot of effort into getting lots of designs done that variety in style so when they come back in to look. They have a lot of designs to pick from. With my designs i have tried to incorporate the style that they previously liked when they last came in along with finishing the map design. These i feel are very good bright and bold, but also engage the viewer as it serves a purpose as they can see things like streets and landmarks in worksop. However i have also tried to do this in other design work but in a slightly different way. For example with my bauhaus designs as they incorporate its surrounds and the building itself, but are still bright and eye catching. Also what i like about it is that you can see different things in the designs even though it is basic and geometrical. Like my mum saw a dogs face and my brother saw a birds beak, so passengers in the interchange can engage in the design but in a different way to the others.
Overall i have liked this project and feel it has benefited me a lot in terms of being able to adapt with the changing needs of the client. Which is a important skill to have for me wanting to go to foundation as it wont be long till i am going to university working on very big projects again. As for my designs i feel they have been very strong and bold which is a important element they needed to have to go on the glass. Also they have incorporated the styling of the building- not for it to bend in but look like it suits the surrounding area. These designs have had to be adapted as well from color to monotone as thats what the client wanted.
Finally with the designs for the large wall space inside the interchange, this is whats really excited me and i think it shows through my designs. They are bright, colourful, bold and serve a purpose as it has a background to it. I have not only used color in my designs but bright bold ones at that, and not paisley, muted colors as one it is not my style. But also in such a large space like the interchange and on a bright white wall. I think it needs very vibrant colors to lighten the place up so it isn't at risk of feeling cold and lifeless. But instead jumps out at people. Also i feel its what the building needs and more importantly deserves and what the architect is expecting from it.
