Human form

This morning we sketch the human skeleton to try and learn the shape and size of the human body. To understand the fundamental sizes and proportions of the human body. Which means once we understand the bases of the human body, I can then build up from that to draw a actual human and in different shapes and positions.

These were my 2 Pencil sketches that I did. I feel I am a strong sketcher with a more free hand sketch approach (messy) I like this style as it is more expressive and you almost get a movement to your image. However the only thing I don't like about my style of drawing is sometimes my work lacks defining features which don't stand out very well.
Which is something I need to work on! To do this i need to add very very dark shadding with something like a 8B but also very light sketch work to show were the light bounces off with one of the H range.

This is another persons work that really stands out for me because it is in the style that I like. It has a lot of dark and light areas which gives the drawing a real depth and realism feeling. But without being to constrained with everything drawn perfectly! However i could learn something from this sketch because they have taken the approach that less is more so the dark shades have been used sparingly to highlight key areas and then just lightly shaded certain areas to give it a realistic depth and quality to it. Unlike mine which i feel i over use the dark shades, which then loses a certain quality to the image as you don't have the same contrast.
