My clay modelling was a bit of a disaster. I did my original wire 2D skeleton too out of proportion. so when it came to applying the clay on the model, it wouldn't stay up right and the legs kept collapsing. However as a basic practice exercise in using wire and clay it was a success because now I know for next time what I need to correct and do differently.
This is my other clay model I did of Connor. (Another person on my college course ). The task was to do a model of the persons face sat opposite you. Which I feel has gone pretty well. It is meant to be a characture so I have exaggerated some of his features like his glasses and hair!
Also In this session I also learnt about the health and safety aspects which I need to be careful of not only to keep myself self but also others around me. The things to watch out for are...
- Keeping the environment clear and tidy.
Obviously this is a obvious thing when working in the 3d room because if you have things like water, wire or other materials on the floor then people could slip/ trip and injure them self's
- Wearing appropriate safety equipment
When using anything like wire or anything else which could damage your eyes you must wear goggles to protect your eyes. The same applies to other sharp or dangerous equipment like knifes- then you should wear gloves as well
- Safety with clay
Clay is generally quite a safe material to use when wet and moist. However when it dries the dust can gather in the lungs and cause silicosis as when clay dries it turns into silicone dioxide- which if expose to for long periods of time can cause a incurable lung disease. So it is very important to wash your hands and the environment and make sure it is clear from clay
