vorticism final peice

This is a my final piece it was made out of ply wood so it was light but ridged so it would hang but it kept its shape.  Overall i think it has come out well it is simple and bold so sticking with a style i am good at but still fitting in with the brief we were told that was to create a 3d vorticism sculpture from what we had learnt in life drawing. But Instead of concentrating on the body like what people usually do, I thought of just concentrating on just portrature and trying to added moment into it. Also the face goes through a range of emotions and everyone can relate to something within it- which consequently means it is engaging for somebody to look at. Also i have added very bright colors. But also colors that contrasts each other to give connotations of what each side means. For example the basic shape face you see there is white and green to symbolise peace, tranquility, purity and nature, so a audience gets a relax calm feel. Which then contrasts with the very dark blacks and reds, which signifies anger, blood, violence and fear.

Although the paint hasn't gone on right and as we only had 3 hours the paint didn't have chance to dry  in-between coats, and obviously to get a good solid color on wood it needed a few coats. Which would be sponged down in-between coats to stop brush stroke marks. The red, green and one of the white bits have come out well because it was acrylic paint. However originally the big white face had a few coats of emulation paint which blistered and bubbled in-between coats. But because of the time period in which it had to be painted I didn't have enough time to wait for it to dry and re sand it back down to paint in acrylic. So to show the effect of what the effect of the colors would do i left it and slotted it together.

This is how it was made. To start of previously i did a mock model which i have already posted about. Once i knew what it would look like and that it would fit together. I then took it apart and measured from point to point to find out what it measeured then multiplied it by 3 so that my final piece would be 3 times as big. Once I did this i was then able to use that as a fixed point to cross reference from that to make sure all the measurements and angles fit were correct so that it would fit together well. This took quite a bit of time but it was worth it to make sure it was right.

Once i had done that and maked my shape onto the wood. I Then used a electric jigsaw so it would be much faster to cut but also so that I could cut round corners which is something i wouldn't have been able to do by hand.

The jigsaw

I then cut round the shape which was clamped down to keep it still.

I also wore safety goggles to protect my eyes from any bits flying up.

Then finally once all the pieces were but i simply slotted it together

Then to prep them for paint I sanded them down to give it a better and slightly suffer surface for the paint to adhere to.

Then finally the paint was added.
